Turnstile have released a mellow new single, “Alien Love Call,” featuring Blood Orange.

In addition to a new visual, the track comes with the announcement of the band’s upcoming full-length album, GLOW ON.

The video for “ALIEN LOVE CALL” is comprised of archival footage taken from live performances, and was directed by vocalist Brendan Yates and guitarist Pat McCrory. The video showcases everything you’d come to expect from Turnstile, such as backflips, dance-offs and images of bassist Franz Lyons, unphased and surfing across the crowd.

“Alien Love Call” embraces the sonic palatte of indie and shoegaze, but is remniscient of similarly stripped-down singles from the hardcore outfit like “NO SURPRISE.”

The new song begins with a heavily chorused guitar while the lyrics “Can’t be the only one” overlay scenes of jam-packed venues.

Drummer Daniel Fang’s part stands out on the mellow and insightful track, staying true to the pace of the song while bringing a driving force to the stripped-down number. The juxtaposition of the track’s calm insight and the chaotic nature of the video creates an unparalleled viewing experience of the type that Turnstile has perfected.

Turnstile has been making waves in the hardcore scene all summer. In June 2021, the band released the joint-media project TURNSTILE LOVE CONNECTION, a quick-hitting EP that came with an accompanying short film also directed by Yates.

GLOW ON will feature songs from the previous EP. The record, set for release August 27 via Roadrunner Records, will also feature a number of additional new songs. You can preorder GLOW ON and other merch here.

The band announced GLOW ON via a billboard in Baltimore, similar to their announcement for TURNSTILE LOVE CONNECTION. An Instagram post officially confirmed the announcement and gave a look into the forthcoming album’s aesthetic.

The new record continues the band’s trend of working with groundbreaking producers. While their previous full-lengths included production from legendary punk producers such as Will Yip (Panic! At The Disco, Title Fight, Movements) and Brian McTernan (Circa Survive, Hot Water Music), the newest release was recorded with none other than the multi-genre virtuoso Mike Elizondo (50 Cent, Fiona Apple, Mastodon).

In a press release, Yates, who co-produced the record, said capturing the emotion of the album was difficult.

“Working to figure out what you want from a song and how to capture it is always a huge learning experience,” Yates says. “A live show environment shared with others, I think, is the true essence of the band and music; but when recording an album, you’re given a lot of opportunity. You want to breathe as much imagination into it as possible.”

While Blood Orange’s feature adds depth to “ALIEN LOVE CALL,” fans can also expect to hear the songwriter’s melodic vocals featured on “LONELY DEZIRES.” Additionally, the singer contributes vocals on “ENDLESS.”

Beyond releasing groundbreaking new music, the band is also scheduled to play a series of shows in August and September, with additional European festivals already planned for the following year. Turnstile’s merch often features the slogan “you really gotta see it live,” and they certainly live up to the reputation. You can secure tickets via the band’s website and view tour dates below.
