Keeping in line with SeeYouSpaceCowboy’s signature dark sound, “The End To A Brief Moment Of Lasting Intimacy” parallels the vicious yet comforting theme of the album overall. Two weeks after the band finished the recording process, vocalist Connie Sgarbossa almost died from a drug overdose. She even called the experience a “physical manifestation” of the album.

“Writing music is cathartic to me,” she says in a press release. “Getting things on paper is the only way I know how to deal with stuff. So to have that happen two weeks later almost backed up why I wrote the album—it was a self-fulfilling prophecy. It reinforced that I wrote the album that I needed to write.”

The visual for “The End To A Brief Moment Of Lasting Intimacy” juxtaposes the darker elements of the song with a palette of rainbow colors. As the group sing and scream, the video cuts to various people kissing, a visual manifestation of the concept of “the end to a brief moment of lasting intimacy.”

Sgarbossa explains that the song represents a mix of various emotions.

“Don’t mistake lust for love,” she says. “Don’t think that the presence of others can make you feel whole. We are angels with faded halos clinging to the doomed pleasures that wrap us together in an indulgent embrace, only to lose the harmony, unbid and move to the next temporary comfort.

“Even if it feels like the person in front of you can save you from the isolating feelings of being alone in this world, it’s only temporary,” she continues.
