Dianña Releases “Hands”

Dianña’s musical journey led her through a succession of studio and live appearances with artists as diverse as Amy Grant and Snoop Dog. Her own work, however, reflects a passion for traditional country music revamped for modern audiences. The wide breadth of her skill makes her a particularly potent singer/songwriter in this mold as she’s canny enough to incorporate traditional fundamentals into her work while still keeping both feet planted firmly in today. Her late 2018 debut “Andale Yeehaw” built immediate enthusiasm for more and she followed it with two more originals in 2019, “You Got Some Nerve” and “Rubberneck”.

Her success with the novelty song “Calm Down Karen” garnered over fifty million TikTok plays and spawned a pop remix of the song in late 2021 that reached #48 on the BDS/Billboard Top 40 POP Indicator chart and remains on dozens of radio station playlists across the United States. Her serious material, however, will ultimately make every bit as much of an impact. Her latest single “Hands” is another Dianña original inspired by her encounter with her older working man’s hands and noting the contrast with her own.

Such a simple source of inspiration. Dianña expands on the premise, however, with a full throated vocal that makes this so much more than a song about someone’s hands. Dianña joins the long list of songwriters who, when penning such a song as this, are invariably telling listeners much more about themselves than the nominal subject. She works spiritual implications into the lyrics that won’t repel non-spiritual listeners because she phrases both the writing and her vocal in a way that invites everyone to connect with her message.

She invokes traditional country elements in the song with dazzling passion and musicality. It’s delivered with a decidedly modern slant, the polished production accentuates that, but you can hear the beating heart of tradition thudding away throughout each second of the performance. Her lyrics, as well, clearly value tradition, but they also show a first-class writer at work. The way each line segues well into the next, the lack of any extraneous verbiage, and well-chosen rhymes are key to the song’s success.

If anyone dared to think Dianña would build her career on the backs of such fare as the aforementioned “Calm Down Karen”, “Hands” disabuses them of the notion. Her vocals and writing alike soar with this adult material, higher than any novelty song could ever carry a listener, and every note of the song’s musical backing is certain to entertain even the most rigorous critic.

She isn’t far into her solo career, but it’s apparent that she has the proverbial “goods” to enjoy the sort of staying power top flight talents bank on. It isn’t difficult imagining, as well, Dianña soaring even higher with this song in live performance. She’s ready to stand on her talent and it’s a safe bet that anyone who loves heartfelt country music will flock to this single. It’s got everything you could want from modern country music.
