Randy Blythe Was Recently on the Weather Channel to Talk Rainforest Conservation

In the latest edition of “hey, that’s a metal dude in a non-metal situation,” Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe was a special guest to discuss Ecuadorean rainforest conservation efforts during a recent episode of Pattrn on The Weather Channel.

The episode, which aired last month, had Blythe and Ecuadorean conservationist Carlos Ojeda on to talk about how the rock star uses funds he raised from Cameo to help pay for his ongoing conservation efforts in the South American country.

Blythe said he purchased some land in Ecuador for conservation purposes prior to the pandemic and decided that he was just going to offset those costs with an upcoming tour. Then the pandemic hit and we all know the story from there.

Without the revenue stream that touring can provide a headlining band like Lamb of God, Blythe said he relented to requests from Cameo to join the service, with the goal being to save up the funds he earned through the platform to help pay for his conservation efforts.

Blythe said the band’s latest album Omens ties into his conservatory efforts in some ways.

“Ecuador has the highest annual deforestation rate in the western hemisphere. This is causing greenhouse gases to just go on and on and on because you need trees to absorb this stuff. We’re seeing it in our costal areas, the water levels are rising, it’s all interconnected. For me, it’s about paying attention to things that are happening right in front of your eyes and not ignoring them, like this climate change. That’s sort of the message of Omens — not superstitious omens, but more like, let’s pay attention to these historically repeating patterns and try and do something about it.”

It’s always cool to see someone you respect continuing to earn that respect by doing something as important as conserving endangered lands. Climate change is a real fucking thing and it’s going to take efforts by everyone – especially major corporations – to do better. You can check out the clip in the embedded tweet below.

Lamb of God’s latest album, Omens, will be out this Friday. We gave it high marks, calling it a “ticking time-bomb of a wake up call.” You can check out our full review right now.
