Black Star Performs On SNL

Ladies and gentlemen, Black Star

Black Star made their historic Saturday Night Live debut on Saturday (Nov. 12) alongside returning comedian and actor Dave Chappelle serving as host for his third time.

Dave Chappelle opened up the show with yet another opening monologue where he weighed in on today’s current affairs from Kanye West, antisemitism, Kyrie Irving to Donald Trump, Hershel Walker, and more.

“I know the Jewish people have been through terrible things all over the world, but you can’t blame that on Black Americans. You just can’t,” said Dave. “It shouldn’t be this scary to talk about anything, it makes my job incredibly difficult. I hope they don’t take anything away from me. Whoever they are.”

For the first performance of the evening, Yasiin Bey and Talib Kweli gave an electrifying performance of “So Be It” and gave one another their flowers as the song’s lyrics scrolled behind them. The duo released the video for the song earlier in the week.

The Brooklyn’s finest duo later returned to the stage with producer Madlib back on the ones and twos for a lively performance of, “The Main Thing Is To Keep The Main Thing The Main Thing” while a collage of powerful images projected behind them.

Both songs are off off Black Star’s No Fear Of Time album which was released in May. It marked Yasiin and Talib’s first project together in nearly 24 years and it is available exclusively on Luminary.
