Chanté Moore Performs Medley at 2022 Soul Train Awards

Chanté Moore made a special appearance at the 2022 Soul Train Awards to celebrate her three-decade career.

The R&B veteran performed a rousing medley of her classics. Backed by a live band and dancers, Moore opened her five-minute set with “Love’s Taken Over,” the lead single from her debut album, Precious.

She then went on to perform “It’s Alright,” another Precious single, before closing with her signature hit “Chante’s Got a Man” from 1999’s This Moment Is Mine.

The latter song, produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and James “Big Jim” Wright, peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 2 on the Hot R&B Singles chart. It was certified gold by the RIAA in July 1999 and is Moore’s only RIAA-certified single.

Moore’s Precious turned 30 on Sept. 29. “Love’s Taken Over” peaked at No. 86 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and No. 13 on the Hot R&B Singles chart. “It’s Alright” also peaked at No. 13 on the latter chart.

The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 1994 for selling 500,000 copies.

Moore’s husband Stephen Hill went to Instagram to share a heartfelt message about Precious.

“Merry 30th Anniversary to the album “Precious”; @iamchantemoore debut disc,” Hill wrote on Instagram.

“An album that ya just drop the needle on and groove…and disturb that groove only to flip the record over for side B. There are very few albums you put on with ‘no-skips’. This is one. Sinewy soul sung by a songstress seducing through sound.”

Moore and Hill got married in October after being engaged for a year. The couple announced their engagement on Oct. 26, 2021 via Instagram while vacationing for Hill’s 60th birthday.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to say~ what love, peace and joy I feel~ because of you @stephengranthill. There are mountains, valleys and hidden coves, full of treasures I’ve never seen before … that are pouring out of your heart,” Moore wrote.

“Thank you for showering me with more than I ever expected!! Happy Birthday and I love you! Who knew 30 years ago~ through many chance meetings… we would end up H E R E!?!? But, here we are…. WE will enjoy OUR gift of the ‘PRESENT!’”

Circling back to music, Moore released a gospel-influenced single titled “Right One” in September 2021. She co-wrote it with Eric Dawkins (Chris Brown, Mario, Mary J. Blige).

Moore’s last album, The Rise of the Phoenix, was released in September 2017.

“[The Rise of the Phoenix] is about taking all of the things that have happened and being rebirth and being reborn in excellence and more beauty than ever before,” Moore explained.
