Tribulation Paints a Dark, Gothic Veneer on Blue Öyster Cult’s “Vengeance (The Pact)”

Gothic metal outfit Tribulation are paying homage to one of the great rock bands that inspired metal around the world with the release of their version of “Vengeance (The Pact)” by the Blue Öyster Cult.

Originally found on their 1981 album Fire of Unknown Origin, Tribulation’s version of the song will be featured on their upcoming EP, Hamartia. Like many metal musicians, guitarist Adam Zaars said he and his bandmates have wanted to cover a Blue Öyster Cult tune for a while now, but didn’t get to committing it to a recording until now.

“We’ve been meaning to do a BÖC cover for over a decade now, and finally got around to doing it. They’ve been a constant source of inspiration throughout the years as they always seemed to find new creative ways of doing their thing, which is what we’re always striving for. It will stand out a bit from what we usually do as anyone listening will find out soon enough!”

As you can hear in the cover below, Tribulation played it pretty faithfully to the original source material, albeit with some of their own darker flair added in for effect. From the get go, Tribulation’s version is a pretty good cover.

Hamartia will release on April 7 in various formats via Century Media, though you can preorder or presave your copy today. Tribulation also have some live dates planned throughout Europe this summer, though they’ve admitted that they’re not done planning out their itinerary for the rest of the year, so expect to hear about more shows in the future.
