With Spring comes the promise of longer days, warm sunshine, flowers, and, to many, baseball. Shaheed and DJ Supreme have collaborated with the World Baseball League on their new single, ‘Play Ball’, a feel-good anthem perfect to sing anywhere, from hit around games in the back garden, to league games in packed stadiums.
World Baseball League are an organization dedicated to “reimagining what baseball can be”, and with an emphasis on community, our favourite Birmingham Alabama hip-hop powerhouses Shaheed and DJ Supreme have created an instant classic with ‘Play Ball’. DJ Supreme’s beats are as always warm, soul-soothing, while Shaheed spits bars with effortless ease. Together they capture the welcoming nature of baseball, and their lyrics explore the history of the game, and the legends who made it all possible.
The music video for ‘Play Ball’ shines the spotlight on Birmingham’s rich baseball history, and serves as the ultimate tribute as they weave history and modern-day culture together, using positivity as their guide. We see Shaheed and DJ Supreme round the bases at Rickwood Field, the oldest professional ballpark in the United States, where many teams, including the World Baseball League, continue the legacy of the trailblazers who went before them.
Along the way, they ally themselves with today’s professionals, while exploring Birmingham’s deep baseball roots, including a trip to the Negro Southern League Museum. It’s not just a celebration of the past however; it’s also linking to the future, while making history.
