Two Dark Birds Conjure Up A Vision Of February Haze In ‘Pink Light’

‘Pink Light’ is the latest single from Two Dark Birds, a band from the Catskill Mountains of south eastern New York.

Trippy and atmospheric, ‘Pink Light’ was written by songwriter and frontman Steve Koester, who founded Two Dark Birds with Drummer Jason Mills. They’re joined by Josh Roy Brown playing lap steel, Tyler Wood on keys, Iris Koester on vocals, and Derek Nievergelt on bass.

‘Pink Light’ opens with a minimalist electronic instrumentation that soon gives way to strummed acoustic guitars and bustling drums, steel guitars, and hazy harmonies. It’s a shimmering vision of the forest, bathed in the pink light of a February morning. Close your eyes, to the point where just the merest slits are open, and you will be able to visualise the sunbeams breaking through, over the ridgeline, coming down the mountain.

About two thirds into the track, ‘Pink Light’ leans into the psychedelic and with what sounds like sitars, bells, and tambourines, speeds up and reveals the rising sun. It might only be February in the song, but it brings with it the promise of the approaching spring, filling the Catskills with birdsong, and greenery.

‘Pink Light’ is out now, and can be streamed and downloaded here. You can find out more about Two Dark Birds and their music online on their official website, Facebook, and Instagram.
