2023 Grammys: Robert Glasper’s ‘Black Radio III’ Wins Best R&B Album

Robert Glasper is now two-for-two in the Best R&B Album, as Black Radio III won the statuette at the 65th Grammy Awards. Glasper took home the prize for Black Radio at the 55th Grammys in 2012.

“I had a responsibility to give people what they were asking for, especially during the pandemic,” Glasper told Apple Music of Black Radio III. “They wanted another Black Radio, so I had to deliver.”

Before Black Radio III, Glasper shared Black Radio II, which was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 57th Grammy Awards in 2015.

Glasper didn’t win the last trophy that night, but he did accept Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jesus Children,” on which Lalah Hathaway and Malcolm Jamal Warner appeared.

Prior to releasing Black Radio III, Glasper won Best R&B Song for “Better Than I Imagined,” a song that launched the album cycle. Meshell Ndegeocello and H.E.R. feature on the award-winning track.

Glasper unleashed the track “Shine” featuring D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché in anticipation of Black Radio III, which surfaced in February 2022.

Black Radio III assembled an all-star cast of talent, from BJ The Chicago Kid and Ledisi to Jennifer Hudson and PJ Morton and many more.

Glasper returned last fall with Black Radio III (Supreme Edition), a two-disc extension of its February release. Estelle, Luke James, Alex Isley, Bilal and others guest star on the extended version.

Glasper also had vocals from the late Mac Miller for the track “Therapy pt. 2.”
