Kenny Lattimore has scored his second No. 1 single on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart with “Take A Dose.”
According to Billboard, the Adult R&B Airplay chart is the “most popular songs by radio airplay detections as compiled by Luminate.”
Lattimore topped the Adult R&B Airplay chart with “For You” more than 25 years ago. The Grammy-nominated song, lifted from his self-titled debut album, reigned for 17 weeks.
“It was an authentic love song,” Lattimore told Rated R&B of “For You” last February in honor of its 25th anniversary.
Circling back to “Take A Dose,” the song is not only No. 1 on Billboard this week but also tops R&B radio, according to Mediabase.
“It’s been an incredible start to the year. My wife, Faith, and I just welcomed a baby girl two weeks ago, and now I have another #1 song,” Lattimore exclusively tells Rated R&B.
“I remember when ‘For You’ was #1 for ten consecutive weeks and how validating that felt. Now, after a career spanning 25 plus years, to be back at #1, I’m truly grateful. My album title truly spoke truth to power – I’m here to stay.”
“Take A Dose” is the first song to chart on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart from Lattimore’s tenth studio album, Here To Stay, which arrived in late 2021.
The song was co-produced by Lee Major and Dra-Kar “Madicin” Wesley. Lattimore lauded the latter as a “great writer and producer” in a Rated R&B interview last winter.
Here To Stay surfaced after multiple pre-release singles, “Pressure,” “Only Girl” and “Lose You.”
“I hope people discover it or take away that love is here to stay,” Lattimore told Rated R&B about the album. “I hope people get this passion that I have for singing a love song, and they say, ‘You know what? This guy is really committed to this because it’s authentic. It’s real for him.’”
In terms of new music, Lattimore plans to release an album inspired by Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole. That particular passion project was going to come ahead of Here To Stay; however, conversations with Wesley convinced him to go in another creative direction.
On a personal note, as Lattimore mentioned above, he and his wife, Judge Faith Jenkins, welcomed their first child together, daughter Skylar Leigh Lattimore, in January.
“Welcome to the world Skylar Leigh Lattimore! Our sweet, beautiful baby girl arrived last week and mom and baby are doing well! I marvel at your strength and resilience and am so happy our daughter has you as her guiding light in life,” Lattimore wrote on Jan. 23.
Lattimore and Jenkins first announced they were expanding their family in August 2022.
