Chris Stapleton performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl tonight (February 12). The country superstar sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” and played guitar to Arizona’s State Farm Stadium as the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs lined up in advance of kickoff. During Stapleton’s rendition of the anthem, Eagles’ coach Nick Sirianni was visibly moved to tears.
Stapleton gave his performance ahead of a Babyface rendition of “America the Beautiful” and Abbott Elementary star Sheryl Lee Ralph’s “Lift Every Voice and Sing.” Rihanna, of course, will play the official halftime show, marking her first public performance in five years.
Mickey Guyton sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at last year’s Super Bowl, and Jhené Aiko did “America the Beautiful.” The halftime show featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem.
