Static-X Unveil the New Cybernetic Look of Their Masked Vocalist Xer0

Less than 24 hours remain before industrial metal titans Static-X heads out on their “Rise of the Machine Tour” with Fear Factory, Dope, Mushroomhead, and Twiztid. To mark the occasion and to highlight a change in the band’s overall theming, the group partnered with world-renowned mask and prop creator Eddie Yang and his Deity Creative studio to give vocalist/guitarist Xer0 a new, more high-tech look.

According to the band, the new wardrobe and mask was the result of a collaboration among Yang, Ed McDonough from ECCO Studios, and Dope frontman and creative director Edsel Dope. Though there’s no other reason why he’s involved…

Yang said he’s a long-time metal fan who, like most people, became a Static-X fan after listening Wisconsin Death Trip.

“I am honored to contribute to Wayne’s [Static, late Static-X frontman] legacy and to work with the band on their incredible vision for evolving Static-X and Xer0 into something that is truly unique. This project finally combined my passion for character design and metal music into one big check-off the bucket list.”

With the new look in hand, Xer0 called Yang a “genius” in a press release, explaining that the band wanted to “evolve the Xer0 character into a more cybernetic/robotic figure for the ‘Rise Of The Machine’ tour.”

For fans, this new tour has been a long time coming, since the dates had originally been scheduled to take place back in 2022. Logistical issues put the kibosh on the last attempt, but this upcoming leg will start tomorrow night in San Francisco and come to an end on April 15 in Los Angeles, with dates throughout the U.S. and parts of Canada in between. You can check out the full list of dates below.

Static-X is also plotting the release of the final recordings featuring Wayne Static in their eighth studio album, Project Regeneration: Vol. 2 on November 3. This new album will feature 13 new songs and was produced by Xer0 and mixed/mastered by longtime collaborator Ulrich Wild.
