How does this feel?
Live from the world famous Apollo Theater, where dreams are born, and legends are made, it’s Verzuz starring D’Angelo and friends.
Steering away from its typical format, the legendary neo-soul singer held down the monumental night with a solo performance of his very own catalogue and a few surprising guests.
D’Angelo kicked off the show with new music alongside trumpeter Keyon Harrold, and then ran through his Brown Sugar classics (“Cruisin’”,”Lady”, “Brown Sugar”), his Voodoo hits (“Devil’s Pie”, “Untitled (How Does It Feel)”, “The Root”, “Chicken Grease”), his Black Messiah favorites (“Really Love” , “Sugah Daddy”, “1000 Deaths”), and many more.
During the 90-minute show, Method Man and Redman joined D’Angelo for their Voodoo collaboration “Left & Right” and Method Man stuck around for his D’Angelo-assisted “Break Ups 2 Make Ups”.
Later on, H.E.R. was brought out to perform her Daniel Caesar-featured song “Best Part”, before she and D’Angelo gave a magnificent rendition of Lauryn Hill’s “Nothing Even Matters”.
D’Angelo vs. Friends, which Swizz Beatz revealed was initially a battle against Maxwell, follows last month’s soundclash, Ashanti vs. Keyshia Cole.
Presented by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland,Verzuz is a virtual musical celebration between two elite artists playing and performing selections from their catalog.
