Relapse Signs Final Gasp, Announce Debut Album Mourning Moon

Boston’s own goth-tinged metal group Final Gasp have achieved a major career move, as they’ve recently signed with Relapse Records, have their debut album Mourning Moon set for release on September 22, and have a U.S. tour all lined up and ready to go starting next week.

The announcement came earlier today, with Relapse announcing the signing and releasing the band’s first single, “Mourning Moon.” According to frontman Jake Murphy, the song was written “for someone but it ended up being about so many people who are either here or gone. It’s a love letter to loss.”

“The whole record has to do with loss. The title comes from that anxious feeling you have when you go to bed and you’re thinking about everything all at once. You’re regretting decisions you’ve made—or didn’t make—and you’re up all night thinking about it.”

With 12 tracks filling out their debut offering, Final Gasp follow up their two previous EPs Baptism of Desire and Haunting Whisper.

“Every song was written with nothing but a natural feeling for what felt right. There’re tons of different influences, like Killing Joke and Die Kreuzen, even Echo & The Bunnymen and SSD. But we’re not really thinking about other bands. We feel like we’ve tapped into something that’s our own.”

Mourning Moon will be released on September 22 via Relapse Records, but you can preorder your copy today.

Starting next week, the band will also embark on a U.S. tour, hitting major cities along the way. You can find the full list of dates below.
