Florida Based Nightlfy Releases “Who’s In”

The soundtrack to saying goodbye to your troubles and succumbing to the constant groove is the overall vibe in Nightfly’s “Who’s In”. Unmistakably catchy and colored with vibrant jazz, blues and rock tones, “Who’s In” is from the Florida band’s EP But, Wait There’s More. Not just for a Friday night playlist, “Who’s In” conjures up the feeling of summer, life at the beach and even some New Orleans’ laissez faire tones. Who’s in – well, you will be too once you hear this very fun song.

One doesn’t have to be living the beach lifestyle, but the general carefree attitude is prevalent in this song. A few years back we were reminded to ‘let it go’ (thanks Frozen) and I felt like this song was telling the same advice. Only this time it’s a gripping, melodic guitar, tickling bluesy keys and a female lead singer that struts her stuff the same way Bonnie Raitt can command a stage. A band since 2013, Nightfly is Dianne Moore, Seth Bernstein, Andre Follot, Mike E. Styx and Whitey Bryan.

Let me show you how it’s done, Moore sings. I loved the swagger and the confidence in her voice. She’s also very welcoming. I’m kicking off my Sunday shoes…I’m just about to lose these blues, she sings. Moore sings with a steady tempo but adds a dash of personality and keen range. The lyrics keep the mood very upbeat and fun – just what the doctor ordered. They transport the listener easily and have an instant rapport. Flowing underneath her voice is a steady stream of percussion, a wild bass groove (which, selfishly speaking here, I could have used much more of), guitars that ring like a bell and tingling electric piano keys. I felt like the keys were little jolts of lightning, sparking the rest of the arrangement. It was hard to imagine what came first – the lyrics or the piano. I thought the keys were vital to this song’s success. Just after the song’s bridge and nearly to the end, the keys have a champagne bubble type of tone. It’s like saying ‘cheers’ to the listener. It brought yet another smile to my face.

The song had many twists and turns, too. I loved the extended jams, and you can tell that Nightfly has had their share of live performances. This is a jam band in many ways, and they really spread the love the spotlight evenly amongst the instruments. Had this not been an audio download or stream, I can easily picture this at an outdoor amphitheater. “Who’s In” has such a natural bounce, a levity happening in the rhythm section and Moore’s voice that one would be hard pressed to not want to get up and dance. Nightfly seems to raise the bar at the beginning, middle and end of “Who’s In”. I loved the depth and the chills and spills the songs provided. They find that sweet spot, that natural joy of music and they never let it go. This song gets you going and keeps you ‘in’.
