Tell us about your latest release!
Our newest song is called “I Have A Crush On Lisa Loeb”, I suppose the title is pretty self-explanatory but needless to say the song is about the singer/songwriter Lisa Loeb who I am a big fan of. The craziest thing about all of it is that when we released the song Lisa Loeb actually responded to a post we made about it on Twitter and Instagram and listened to the song!
What was the creative process for it?
The song was written when I was on a Lisa Loeb kick and watching a bunch of her music videos. I was thinking about how as a singer and songwriter you can connect with people you may never even meet through your art and make them feel like they know you and are close to you. It’s a very unique power to have and I think it’s very special.
Who are some of your biggest musical influences?
My biggest influences come from the alt-rock/emo genres of the 90s and early 2000s, Weezer, Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy and The Brobecks are the bands I hold closest to my heart and are the main reason I do what I do!
Who would be a dream collaboration for you?
Definitely Rivers Cuomo of Weezer. He’s such an incredible influence on my music, I’m always trying to figure out what his secret is to writing such consistently great melodies, I feel like I could learn a lot from him.
Do you have a mantra or piece of advice you carry with you that you like to pass on to other musicians?
The best advice I can think of is to be who you are and not try to fit in to any trend or anything just because other people are doing it. If your heart’s not in it you’re not going to make your best work and people won’t connect. Also don’t be discouraged by early failures, keep hanging in there and learn from your mistakes!
Any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for?
We just released our debut album this May but we just couldn’t stand still so we’re already working on album number two! This one will be a little heavier than the first one and maybe a little darker, but I think people who enjoyed our first will appreciate this one as well!
