Hi Wheeler! Great to speak with you today!
What have you been working on lately?
I’ve been working on a bunch of things. I’ve been on tour with Chairmen of The Board for most of the summer and in the studio on my off days trying to finish an album I’m working on. I’m also going on the road this fall, so I’ve been rehearsing for that.
What is your favorite performance you have done so far?
Kenny Bobien and I recently did a private performance for about 30 people in what I’m sure was like a 20 million dollar penthouse. It was a small crowd but they really appreciated that we came to perform for them and they were extremely kind and generous to us the whole event. I was so grateful not because we got paid a lot of money or that it was fancy but because my music had reached people that I never thought would listen to it, which is amazing.
What was the most influential performance you saw that changed how you approach what you do?
A few years ago I was on the road and had the chance to check out Nile Rodgers and Chic. They put on such an amazing show proving that if you have talent and are generous and humble you can perform until you decide to stop.
What has been the most surreal moment of your career so far?
I had recently decided that I was going to DJ a lot more and I wanted to polish up my skills so I was asking DJ friends if they could give tips or help in any way. A few weeks later I got a call that changed my life. Paul Oakenfold – one of the world’s greatest DJs – had heard that I needed help and was calling to offer his. He invited me to his house to give me whatever lessons I might need. Not to a studio or to his office – to his house. All I can say is that Paul helped to tweak some issues I had with my DJing and I’m forever indebted to him.
What are some of your long term dream goals you are working towards?
Some of my long term goals would be to tour throughout the world playing small clubs and making friends and building lifelong relationships. And creating a DJ themed musical for Broadway.
Any projects coming up you want us to know about?
I’m working on a full length debut album for my group Beautiful Thieves.
