Exclusive Interview with Valid Point

Your music is really thoughtful. How long do you contemplate what the subject matter will be?

Lately, I have been trying to keep it real with my lyrics, and talk about past experiences.  I want people to know that no matter what they are going through, that it is ok, and you are not the only one.  So when I go to make a song nowadays, I try to keep in mind what I have been through, or am going through, and how I came out on the other side.  From that point on, I let the music do the rest of the work.  It feels good when people reach out and let me know that the music connected with them.  That is the best feeling in the world.

Context is everything, do you make sure you are clear with your messaging? How do you do that?

Not really.  I let the music and lyrics be subjective to the listener.  If people are close enough to me, then they will try and connect the dots to a story, but it is not always that black and white.  Sometimes lyrics diverge from an original feeling and create its own story.  For me, it is more about people taking the music for what it is and letting it connect in their own way.  It feels better that way.  If I were somebody who wants you to feel a certain way about the music, then what would be the point of an audience.  I am not here to custom fit who listens to my music.

What music has been worth the wait for as long as you’ve been working on it?

I have two songs that I have been sitting on for about a year with Josh Nabors.  I am really excited about how they are coming out.  One of them features Landon Sears and it is so dope.  Look out for that one.  It will be called “Old School”.  It has an old Drake vibe.  It feels like a song that you would listen to while you are snowboarding.

Will your fans be surprised with what you have coming up next?

Oh hell yeah!  I am trying to get back to how uncomfortable I felt in the beginning of making music.  Trying to find your sound is tough, but when you do, it is really easy to fall into the same pattern.  So currently, I am trying to find something new and still keep what I have built!

Who have you been in the mix with on your music?

There are so many people!  I love working with as many people as I can.  There are the usual suspects like CVNDER, Gretchen, Matty Beats, Andy Wan, whoisdro.  There are some new faces as well like Landon Sears, Eva Grace, scottybeammeup, and Trip Carter.  I cannot wait to drop all of these!

What are you daring yourself to do as you get further along in your music?

I am working on putting together a show for live performances.  That will be a good time!  Other than that, learning how to market better.  There are many hats to wear as an independent artist, and not all of them are cool ones.  Dealing with Facebook ads and social media marketing are definitely not cool hats, but it’s a part of it.

What are you daring yourself to do as you get further in your career?

Networking!  There are a lot of shoulders to rub in Nashville in the music scene.  There are a ton of good people here, and I have gotten close to a few of them.  God has been good throughout the whole journey honestly!

How do you feel like your work is shaping your fans who are listening?

I think I am getting a lot of the “coming of age” or the college crowd.  A lot of my fanbase is 18-22.  I feel like people who have stuck around from day 1 have been able to walk through all the stages of grief.  The early stuff was really sad, and now the music is evolving into more happy and bright pieces of work.  I have always wanted to make music that you can play really loud in your car.  So as long as that is happening, then I am happy!

Give us all your music!
