What is the most daring part about releasing new music?
Releasing something you created is always a bit daring, because you’re sharing a part of yourself with the world. It is both vulnerable and exhilarating to share.
Being a singer/ songwriter, what is a learning curve you had to learn about the two?
The wonderful thing about both is that there is a never ending learning curve, you can always get better and improve, there is no end. Recently, I’ve been getting more into production and learning how to craft multiple instrumental arrangements is both incredibly fun and challenging, there is an infinite amount to learn about how to craft the right sounds, emotion, dynamics.
With New Angels, your latest single. How did you come up with the name?
The title comes from a 1920 Paul Klee painting, Angelus Novus, which inspired philosophers to contemplate how humanity can move forward in the face of dark times. It felt very relevant to our current moment.
How did the Melody come about?
Parts of the melody just flowed out, especially the chorus “Hold on…” I knew that it had to be soaring and high, to match the feeling of desire and hope of something different, while the verses stay low and melancholy.
Pushing yourself to keep making music, is this hard or does it seem as seamless as you make it appear!
There are challenges and it requires a lot of work and discipline, but it’s all so worth it because the process itself is so rewarding. I love every minute of it.
What do you hope your fans focus more on when it comes to your music?
I am so grateful to them for listening and supporting in all ways that they do!
What is the message you want to send in New Angels?
Hope is a living, breathing thing, not a dead lifeless thing. This song is dedicated to all of those of us feeling hopeless or helpless right now- we can get through this, we will get through this. We need to face the darkness and the grief head on, but there is a light on the other side.
