“I Like What I See” by Dave Isaacs’

The new single “I Like What I See” is the new single from Dave Isaacs’ album, Choogle. Now based in Nashville, Tennessee, the classically trained Manhattan School of Music guitarist is making waves in Music City. Listening to this new bluesy/rock track, it’s easy to feel that his presence is going to extend well beyond those walls. Enriched with swampy curtails and possessing a superior sense of grooves, the “Nashville Guitar Guru” is plugged-in perfectly to this inspiring, introspective track.

When I say plugged in – it means he’s completely in the zone. When “I Like What I See” first starts there’s an air of Eric Clapton and Steven Ray Vaughn that enters the room. Once the song gets going, it’s a splendid mix of rock and blues. It’s the kind of blues that can’t be taught in a classroom – Isaacs’ guitar playing might be rooted in his musical studies, but the feel and tones he deploys are vehemently authentic. He brings the smoky plumes of a vintage blues club in the deep south quickly, only to release or exhale the same bravado a standing room only rock club might experience. The music undercurrent is vibrant, and seemingly ever-changing. The rhythm is packed with steady percussion (very faint) and a flow that feels destined to move beyond any stage. In some ways you might think this song is caged in or jailed within the confines of a blues rock piece. I found it to have layers of many American musical styles. Isaacs definitely has a unique stamp that he places upon the tone of his guitar. It’s a give and take, where the listener is begging for more.

I was searching for something…now I’m stepping into the light, sings Isaacs. His voice has a slight growl to it, but certainly not as distinctive as Buddy Guy or BB King. Isaacs has a warmth and thrill of optimism spinning like a carousel at a fairground. He has a sweet innocence in his voice that seems to play ‘devil or angel’ in tandem with his guitar. I suppose that has to do with getting through the bad times to appreciate the good times. He’s earned his chops. “I Like What I See” paints a picture of an artist that has been through some rough times, but he’s not giving up. Isaacs puts forth a single that gives the listener an idea of the grit and the elbow grease he’s given to his art. You can’t help but appreciate his sound and his talents. This is just a song that champions the everyman – the dreamer. All the while the guitar leads the way, and the yearning heart tags along nicely. Isaacs pulls it all together in this impressive single.
