The musical style of The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is difficult to describe. Each instrumental track has its own themes and sounds that make them stand alone templates for listeners to create their own tales to. There is nothing random about the arrangement of the music. Each song has been cared for and focused on which comes through on the crisp production of the EP. I commend Elektragaaz for giving audiences the opportunity to attach their own feelings and ideas to each song. By blending so many ideas and genres Elektragaaz has made something entirely new and original. The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 is here to present audiences with an artistic experience.

There are an array of musical ideas happening on The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4. I want to focus on the last two tracks of the EP, “An Autumn Dance, A Dying Fall” and “Her Body Is A Dance.” Although “Her Body Is A Dance” is influenced by Disco, Elektragaaz’s overall sound isn’t retro its futuristic. While some of the melodies are reminiscent of bygone era’s, the electronic element of Elektragaaz instantly reimagines what Disco can be. “Her Body Is A Dance” is both moody and groovy, it’s not as fast paced as some of the other songs. It isn’t a standard dance track and that’s if you are bold enough to label it as that. It’s a bit more subdued in nature, dreamier. It had me envisioning a low lit club with bodies swaying under seedy lights and a futuristic skies.

“An Autumn Dance, A Dying Fall” is the only track on The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 that has an air of melancholia to it. The opening synthesizers reminded me of an  array of 80’s songs and immediately put me at an otherworldly prom. About a minute in, the song slows down briefly before picking up in tempo again. This track sends you down a spiral staircase only to bring you back up with piano and woodwind instruments. There is a mellowness and flow to “An Autumn Dance, A Dying Fall” that makes it so interesting to listen to. Just when you think the song is going one direction it goes a different way by incorporating new instruments and melodies. These last two tracks on the EP are similar but are still all their own.

There is such a mesmerizing quality that permeates every song on The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4. This mystical feeling makes it seem like each song should go on forever, I found myself wanting more the moment each track ended. Elektragaaz is onto something big and they prove that with the masterful craftsmanship of this EP. The Synaesthetic Picture Show, Now Playing Part 4 releases on February 8th. Do your mind a favor and listen!
