Some singers have a voice that can appeal to audiences of all backgrounds, and Lady Redneck is one of those special singers. Her new single “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son” is a Christian country song geared towards the faith-based community more than it is the mainstream per se, but its strength in melodicism makes it so accessible that it’s easy to see where listeners of all tastes could find it quite the provocative and endearing track. “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son” lyrically presents us with a straightforward concept for the narrative, but in terms of its musical complexities, I think there’s a lot more to be said of Lady Redneck than simply deeming her a talented Christian artist.
The poetic content in this track is undeniably faith-based, but it lacks much of the preachiness that has become a burden for the majority of CCM artists trying to come out of the underground in 2022. This is far more inspirational than it is instructive, rejecting a harsher lyrical tone for something much friendlier and open to interpretation from the audience. It’s easy to get lost in the hook without ever immersing yourself in the verses and vice versa, which is part of the reason why I think Lady Redneck needs to get a lot of praise for the duality of her compositional style. That’s not something learned in any class; you’ve either got it as a songwriter or you don’t, and she definitely does here.
“After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son” has such warm melodies that extend beyond the vocal that it’s hard to believe all of the instrumentation in this track is organic, and yet it is. There’s no debating whether or not Lady Redneck can connect with different layers of melodic instrumental faceting, and if there was before the release of this single, I can see the argument being silenced on the spot once this finds regular rotation on the FM dial. It says a lot that she’s able to sound as full with her harmonies as she does without using some amount of synthesized musicianship, as has become the standard in Christian music both in and outside of the country scene, and I’m intrigued by the idea of seeing her recreate this same magic live.
Whether you’re a big fan of Christian country or just happen to enjoy a slick southern hook when you come across a good one, “After the Rain, You’ll Find the Son” is a quality listen that will have you seriously excited about what Lady Redneck is doing as both a songwriter and a performer in 2022. She’s fresh on my radar for sure, but as long as she continues to make enigmatic and stirring content on the level of this track, I’m going to be following her story. Hers is normally considered a niche style of music, but with the talent that she has with a microphone in her hands, I can’t imagine it staying an underground secret for very long.
