Ryte EyE Ty Drops New Single

American pop music is more of a melting pot in 2022 than ever before, and it’s from this perspective that the aesthetical experiments artists like Ryte EyE Ty are doing in the studio make a lot of sense. Although he isn’t really treading any foreign waters in terms of history, Ryte EyE Ty is pushing himself as an artist in his new single “Where Have the Heroes Gone,” out now everywhere quality indie pop music is sold and streamed. “Where Have the Heroes Gone” takes influence from R&B, retro pop, soul, and a touch of soft rock, all in the name of giving us as brooding a listening experience as possible.

The first element that grabs me when I listen to this single is the purity of the melodies, and I love the way the vocal is guiding the groove rather than the other way around. Too often is it the case that singers who have a lot of range like Ryte EyE Ty get a little lazy when it comes to structuring a relationship between their vocal and the supporting instrumentation, but it’s obvious this artist was putting a lot of thought into what he was playing here. The detail is too great and, honestly, too communicative to be ignored.

This hook is quite stinging, and it certainly makes the chorus sound a lot more emotionally penetrative than it would have otherwise. The lack of reverb on the piano definitely tightens the grip Ryte EyE Ty has over the harmony, and better yet, it makes it sound so much more intimate when he leans into the verse and gives us everything his incredible voice can provide. He doesn’t need all the bells and whistles that some of his peers do, and if there was any arguing about that ahead of “Where Have the Heroes Gone,” it should be broken up now.

There’s a bit of understated angst in these lyrics, and it influences the way we’re made to interpret the optimism on the flipside in more ways than one. Most obviously, it helps to make the words Ryte EyE Ty is singing sound just a bit more honest, but it also underscores the pain that he’s carrying in his heart here. His passion is not without a legitimate source, and even though I don’t know the origin story of “Where Have the Heroes Gone,” it’s clear to me that this was personal to him from the ground up.

I don’t think there is nearly enough independent content with the soul that you’re going to hear in this single, and while I don’t believe we’ve heard the best that Ryte EyE Ty can produce when he’s operating on all cylinders – at least not just yet – he raises the bar for himself and makes it known how invested he is in his career with this release. “Where Have the Heroes Gone” is a somewhat simple offering on the surface, but the treasure chest of diverse decadence it’s made of makes me very eager for more.
