“LMBT1” is the forthcoming single by Seattle-based Electronic Dance duo, Sugar Addikt. The single is from what will be their soon-to-be released album, that is still unnamed as of this writing. The duo currently consists of Vocalist, Vanessa Littrell, and Musician/Backing Vocalist, Mario Inchausi. Both have extensive backgrounds, and show an affinity for performance and studio wizardry, alike. “LMBT1,” of course stands for, Let Me Be The One.
Some people wanna make you happy/some want to change your mind. “LMBT1″ is practically supercharged out of the gate. The tempo has to be especially fast, and the beats are similar to what Pink Floyd used for “On The Run.” There are a few breakdowns along the way, that really give the song a stronger sense of dynamics. Overall, it is a rapid fire delivery, but somehow, Littrell gives a focused and even meditative performance.
It’s not entirely clear if Mario Inchausi acted as a producer on the track, but you have to assume his presence is invaluable. He’s worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. For him to willfully lend his talents and name to Sugar Addikt, speaks volumes in how he regards, Littrell. The two share an unmistakable, but in some ways, inexplicable chemistry. There’s a slight Rock energy to “LMBT1,” because of how energetic and at times, thrilling, it is.
Vanessa Littrell gives a solid vocal performance, that has a sort of automated quality, because of how pleasant, yet docile, she sounds. Even though the track sounds in danger of exploding into complete chaos at many points, she maintains control. Her lyrics are entirely distinguishable, establishing a deeper sense of connection. The melody line sounds just slightly similar to “Blue Monday,” by New Order at times, but never overly derivative. “LMBT1,” allows for numerous interpretations, due to Littrell and Inchausi’s committed, yet ambiguous motives.
As previously mentioned, “LMBT1” will be included on Sugar Addikt’s upcoming album. There is no release date for the record, meaning that final touches are likely still being added. By their own description, Sugar Addikt do not consider themselves to strictly be an Electronica act. They feel they are a hybrid of many things, and probably intend to prove that on their pending release. They’ve also made it clear that their name only represents one facet of who they are.
If you like you’re dancing to be tinged with a touch of intensity and compulsion, then you’ll love “LMBT1.” It’s one of those songs that grows on you, but also makes a strong first impression. You will come to appreciate the meticulous composition with each ensuing listen, and get more in touch with the performers. Because there is so much Electronic music out there, at the moment, and much more to come, it can tend to blend together. With “LMBT1,” we truly have something just slightly different, with a wider range of influences. It will move your feet, stimulate your senses, and just might turn you into a Sugar Addikt, before you realize it.
