A contemporary hybrid of Flamenco-Arabic-Orchestral-S. Asian sounds with bilingual lyrics, ‘Dil Mi Ravad’ is an exotic re-definition of cosmopolitan aesthetics in cross-genre music.

London, London, United Kingdom — Maham Suhail’s press release of ‘Dil Mi Ravad’ speaks of the artist/composer/producer’s Spanish chapter from her ‘Mitti’ album’s ‘sonic-world-travel diary’. Maham possesses an inherent flair for vocal languages, spoken word; as well as for creation of chordal phrasing within eclectic beat cycles. This piece is a perfect blend of Flamenco-M. Eastern-Orchestral-S. Asian cross-over in music arrangement, with a metaphoric Sufi, anti-establishment statement of a modern-day freedom-fighter urging to rise against any minimising form of injustice.

‘Dil Mi Ravad’ is for anyone who likes to dream, whether it is the melodies, or the rhythm, or the verse: or even, the modern art imagery which is Maham’s artwork, on the backdrop of the elegant Flamenco lady-dancer. Irrespective of your understanding of the techniques of the musics, or your knowledge of the Persian (or even English) language making a statement of loss, surrender, love & freedom: the song will take you on a flight.

“I, as an exploding supernova, break into space: as a silent death….an emerging new light!” (Excerpt: Bridge (Spoken word) section: ‘Dil Mi Ravad’)

‘Eastern Eye’ (England): ‘As a Hippie Artist, my Goal is to help Build a Better World’

‘Dil Mi Ravad’ (Persian, for ‘My Heart is Out of my Hand’) is a bilingual song, with a Flamenco/M. Eastern/Orchestral mix of music arrangements, with splashes of S. Asian Tabla in parts.

The Persian lyric has been written by the late Persian Sufi saint, Hafez Shirazi: This lyric speaks about helplessness (of losing one’s heart: a metaphor for loss of control that is accompanied by an awakening of the human consciousness), of surrender (as a coping mechanism to this loss of control; hence also a lesson in ego-surrender: the first step towards liberation & enlightenment). It is also a statement against establishment forces that rob a person of their choice, of their soul, for their own agendas: be it religious or political establishment.

The English spoken word lyric in the bridge of the song, just before the Flamenco-Tabla outro, speaks of the same: death of the self, giving way to a newer, liberated self.

Music written & track produced by Maham during her time in Spain, the musicians make up an international band, most of these being from various tiers from thee Berklee College of Music (Valencia, Spain): faculty, alumni and the most recent batch including Maham and Julia (Violin).

The instrumental lineup consists of Flamenco Guitar, Oud, Violin, Soprano Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Flamenco & M. Eastern percussions, Piano, Vocals and Tabla.

The ‘Dil Mi Ravad’ audio got released on 11th Sept., as the 5th track to come out of Maham Suhail’s 7-track travel compilation, Alternative Folk Fusion album titled ‘Mitti’:
