Welcome to Melody Maker! We are chatting today with Marliii. Tell us more about yourself and how you got into music?
Thanks for chatting with me! I first realized I wanted to become a musical artist when I was really young. My dad would play guitar a lot around my home when I was growing up, and I was singing along before I could actually speak. When I was about 8 years old, my dad got a beginner guitar from a garage sale and restrung it lefty, and then started to teach me. Eventually I also learned to play the piano, the mandolin, even the harp, and I have audio engineering experience as well.
We hear you have a new single out! What can you tell us about the new release – we want the scoop!
My new single is called GH0$t (pronounced “Ghost”). This track paints a paranormal picture about subtly growing through inner fears and demons, placing ourselves in the lens of our ghosts. It’s available on all streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud — you name it!
Did you write ‘GH0$t’? What is your writing process like?
I wrote, recorded and co-produced GH0$t, and I’m fortunate enough to own all the rights. Composing GH0$t was cool because it started out as a beat that I built in partnership with Splice Sounds, and it was approaching autumn at the time, so I just put some spooky seasonal symbolism into the lyrics.
What do you hope fans feel or take away after hearing your music?
A significant aspect of my sound is versatility, which makes my music eccentric. When listening to my music, I hope that fans feel inspired to experience life in a higher vibration.
Share with us which artist has had the greatest impact on your sound and why?
There are so many talented artists who impact my music style, though the greatest impact to my sound has been Jimi Hendrix because I’m also a lefty guitarist who really appreciates his musical intricacy. As a guitar player, there is always something new to learn from Jimi’s sound, which is why to this day he’s a renown legend and icon.
