Welcome! Today, we have the pleasure of chatting with Brad Sevy, a visionary artist whose musical journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Their latest release has captivated audiences with its seamless fusion of genres and storytelling. Without further ado, let’s delve into their creative process and unravel the magic behind their latest masterpiece.
Well thank you, It’s so good to be here today.
What inspired the creation of your latest song? Can you walk us through the journey from conception to completion?
Living Love started out as a church with this great band. We, the band were looking for a song that kind of fit what we were doing as a Worship team. Then one day, here was this song that we ended up playing at every service and we kept re-working the song and the lyrics until it became like our theme song until it fit us.
It took us seven years to record this album and we constantly revisited this song and kept adding to it every couple of months until we got it right. Hallelujah!
Your music often carries a unique blend of genres. How do you approach mixing different styles, and how did that influence the sound of this particular track?
That’s what makes it so much fun. In the song Heavenly Love, which has an Island/Summer vibe feel to it there was a section right after the guitar solo which was about eight bars that I was trying to figure out what to do with it, so I went home a prayed about it and I woke up the next morning with this New Orleans kind of jazz thing and man that was it. So we put it in and I think it works great. In A New Hallelujah we just wanted it to have a ‘70’s arena rock flare to it, so we added Hammond B3 organ sounds and Wayne played a mandolin and on the album version we added an area anthem guitar solo to really give it that retro feel. But at the same time we kept it grounded in today by having the synth sequencer.
The intro and outro of a song can often set the tone or frame the narrative. How did you envision these sections contributing to the overall message or experience of the song?
The intro to this song is very important in both the Single Edit version and the album version. The album version you were taken on a journey from the ocean to the busy and bustling city, to the country and then in the distance you hear music, a guitar and as you walk closer and closer the music gets louder and louder until you walk in and hear this mass of LOVE pouring over you. With the single edit we hooked you and brought you into the song with this massive choir singing to you and urging you to join in to the beauty of the song, “Arise arise let the song arise!!!”
In today’s digital age, releasing music comes with the challenge of standing out amidst the noise. How do you navigate the promotional aspect of your music releases, and what strategies did you employ for this new song?
Great question and if I had a good answer we’d be sitting in a luxury box at the Super Bowl! Taylor Swift can you give Living Love a shout out!! Amen! We are doing our best to get heard doing interviews like this one and advertising on the Socials, etc. and being persistent in getting our name out there. Also praying everyday that God will keep showing us the way in spreading His word and that’s what this album is His Word.
Looking ahead, what’s next for you creatively? Do you have any upcoming projects or goals you’re eager to pursue?
We have a remix in mind for a formally released single that I’m hoping to start on in the next couple of weeks that I hope will be out soon and it is super cool. Talks for a tour are making the rounds. Can’t wait for that. And hopefully we will have some Merch coming out as soon as I can figure out how to link all of this stuff together, from the Store to Spotify to the web site, etc. Etc. Etc.
