Muni Long has achieved a new award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Grammy winner’s current single, “Made For Me,” has been certified platinum, and over one million equivalent units have been sold.
It marks Long’s second platinum RIAA award, following her 2021 smash “Hrs & Hrs.”
“Made For Me” was released Sept. 15, 2023, via Supergiant Records/Def Jam Recordings. Long wrote the heartwarming track, which was produced by Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Jordan XL.
On Spotify, “Made For Me” has surpassed 130 million streams and is her third-most streamed song, following “Hrs & Hrs” (237.4 million) and “Angel Pt. 1” with Jimin of BTS and JVKE (207 million).
At the time of publication, “Made For Me” has spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart. It’s her longest-running No. 1 on that chart. (The song is currently No. 2 on the chart dated for May 25.)
At radio, “Made For Me” reached No. 1 on the urban and R&B formats. Additionally, it spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and four weeks atop the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart.
The song’s official video, directed by Trinidad James and co-starring Luke James, has more than 37 million views on YouTube.
“I wanted to have fun with this video and really think outside of the box. It’s my little nod to A.I. mixed with Frankenstein,” Long explained. “If you want to find the perfect person in a limited dating pool, you might just have to create them! It’s only science fiction for now but with how fast technology is changing could this be our reality someday?”
On Tuesday, Long released her “Made For Me” remix with Mariah Carey.
“When I got the call from JD to work on the ‘Made For Me’ remix, I said yes immediately,” said Carey. “Muni is an amazing writer and performer, and this collaboration is a match made in heaven!”
The remix was released just ahead of Long’s appearance on The Voice finale, where she performed “Made For Me.” (The performance can be viewed below.)
“Made For Me” is the lead single from Long’s upcoming second album. The project will follow 2022’s Public Displays of Affection: The Album, which included the Grammy-winning single “Hrs & Hrs.”
