After a five-year hiatus, Black Girls Rock! will return to television this summer through a new broadcast partnership with Lifetime.
The 2024 Black Girls Rock! Awards, hosted by actress Danielle Brooks, will be taped on June 27 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and will air Aug. 1 on Lifetime.
The star-studded event “celebrates the outstanding contributions of trailblazers, entertainers, icons, community activists, pioneers, business moguls, thought leaders, and rising stars.”
R&B vocalists and actresses Stephanie Mills and Fantasia are among this year’s honorees.
Mills, a Broadway icon, will be honored with the Living Legend Award. Previous recipients include Dionne Warwick, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack, Pam Grier and more.
Fantasia will receive the Black Girl Magic Award, previously awarded to model and fashion icon Naomi Campbell.
“As the BLACK GIRLS ROCK!® Awards make their much-anticipated return to television on Lifetime, we are thrilled to reignite this empowering platform on a new network in the vibrant city of Atlanta, our new cultural epicenter for celebration,” says Beverly Bond, founder of Black Girls Rock.

Additional 2024 honorees include actress Tracee Ellis Ross (Star Power Award), filmmaker of The Woman King and Love and Basketball Gina Prince-Bythewood (Shot Coller Award), activist and fashion designer Aurora James (Boss Up Award), environmental climate activist Maya Penn (Young, Gifted and Black Award), and ‘Mama Glow’ founder, maternal health advocate, doula and wellness practitioner Latham Thomas (Community Change Agent Award).
Launched in 2006, Black Girls Rock! has celebrated distinguished figures such as Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Erykah Badu, Janelle Monáe, Ciara, Keke Palmer, and more.
The award show previously aired on BET from 2010 to 2019.
