For the first time in five years, technical death metal outfit Nile are returning with a brand new album titled The Underworld Awaits Us. Just as with every other band and their album announcements, they dropped a new single and all I can say is ‘holy massive title, Batman!’
I’m not being hyperbolic, either. When the album drops on August 23 via Napalm Records, you’ll find a track with the following on the track list: “Chapter for Not Being Hung Upside Down on a Stake in the Underworld and Made to Eat Feces by the Four Apes”. Yes, that’s actually the song title.
Now, I know what you’re probably wondering: Hesher, who cares about the title — does it sound good? And I can easily report that yes, it indeed sounds pretty damn good. Its name may be a mouthful, but the roughly four minute runtime is nothing but brutal, face disfiguring death metal from start to finish. It doesn’t let up, nor does it give you time to get your bearings. It’s just fucking brutal.
Founding member and guitarist Karl Sanders said the track and its accompanying video was a highlight for the new album.
“’Chapter for not being Hung Upside Down’ is one of our favorite tracks on the new record. It’s a lot of fun to play, challenging and unpredictable, but with an infectiously brutal, unrestrained vibe that I am very certain will be a blast in the mosh pit during live shows.
“We are super happy to be working with Tom Flynn for the video for this song – he is a visionary with insanely creative ideas and a really cool guy to work with. Very excited for people to see what he has been cooking up with this video.”
In addition to the album and single announcement, the band recently announced a long line of tour dates, with stops in Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand set to take place on September and October of this year. They’ve also been confirmed for Maryland Deathfest, so that’s going to be a must-see if you’re heading out that way.
