Garbage on why they chose these support acts for huge 2024 London Wembley show

Garbage have announced their support acts for their huge 2024 London Wembley show and the reasons why they’ve chosen them.

The band are soon to embark on their UK and Europe tour, where they conclude their tour with a huge concert at the arena on July 20. Shirley Manson and co also have plans to stop by Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bridlington and Wolverhampton before they round off their tour.

Now, Garbage have announced their support acts, unveiling Savages frontwoman Jehnny Beth and Lucia & The Best Boys as the musicians joining them in July.

“Beyond thrilled to have the great icon Jehnny Beth join us for our 20th July show in London at Wembley OVO Arena,” wrote Garbage on Instagram. “As you are probably already aware — Jehnny is a god. She will be joining us in addition to Lucia & The Best Boys, one of Scotland’s finest alt rock bands.”

Along with her solo album ‘To Love Is To Live‘ in 2020, Beth is the frontwoman of British post-punk band Savages, which she has fronted since their inception in 2011. They last released their album ‘Adore Life‘ in 2016: “For the most part, this is an album of love songs: not in the trite, wishy-washy sense of the word but as an elemental and all-consuming force – “Suffering, straight from the gods,” as the ferocious ‘T.I.W.Y.G.’ memorably puts it.”

Bath has also acted in films such as An Impossible Love in 2018, for which she was nominated for Best Female Newcomer at the 2019 Cesar Awards and Palme D’Or-winning film Anatomy of a Fall.

She and Manson have previously crossed paths when Beth awarded Manson the 2018 NME Icon Award, with the latter recalling their meeting in a recent interview with us. “The NME hooked us up [for the 2018 NME Awards] and we have become friends,” she said.

“I told her this; if she’d have come out when I came out then she’d have had the kind of career that I have. I don’t say that lightly, because I meet a lot of talents that are amazing – but Jehnny has what I have. She has that ability to push herself forwards. She’s a phenomenal rockstar. Since Karen O, she is the most convincing, authentic, brilliant, charismatic to emerge. That is the biggest compliment I can give.”

Meanwhile, Lucia & the Best Boys formed in Glasgow and released their debut album ‘Burning Castles’ in 2023. Fronted by Lucia Faithfull, she wrote of their tour with Garbage: “So happy and so lucky to be joining the best Garbage on their EU & UK tour this summer! Couldn’t ask for our first proper jaunt around Europe and a big bad Wembley Arena debut to be with anyone else.”

In other news, Garbage are in the studio working on a new album, “looking for the shards of life and humanity”.
