Lacuna Coil Announce Split with Guitarist Diego Cavallotti

Italian goth metal outfit Lacuna Coil announced a lineup change via social media this morning, in which they said they were parting ways with guitarist Diego Cavallotti. He had been with the band since 2016 as a fill-in replacement after Marco “Maus” Biazzi left the band.

According to the band’s statement, the decision stemmed largely from a creative standpoint. According to the band, they were looking to make a change ahead of their next album cycle.

“As we step into a new cycle, writing and recording our next album, we are parting ways with Diego ‘DD’ Cavallotti. We thank him for the many unforgettable moments shared over the years and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

“All future live plans remain unchanged and the new songs are taking form, we can’t wait to share them with our fans.”

Fans with tickets to see the band perform at this summer’s Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2024, or their U.K. and Ireland tour planned for later this year, don’t have to worry, though. According to the band, they’ll be able to fulfill their tour commitments despite the lineup change.

In a recent interview with Brazil’s Sonoridades Inc., Lacuna Coil frontwoman Christina Scabbia revealed that the band was already working on their follow up to 2019’s Black Anima, stating that it could see the light of day sometime this year.

“I can’t really tell you a lot. I can tell you that we are progressing very fast. We are almost, like, 100… We completed, let’s say, the demoing. We still have to record the rest of the songs, but we will soon — probably after the tour, after the May 2024 North American tour. And if everything goes as projected, before the end of the year it will be released. And that’s already a big news, because we always say, ‘We don’t know. Maybe.’ … I absolutely love the songs. I’m part of the process. But I’m very pleased.”

Given that they were so far into the album’s production with today’s announcement, Cavallotti will likely be credited and featured on it when it releases.
