Natalie Portman Calls Bluey Her “Most Important” Credit

Like many parents, Natalie Portman holds Bluey in high regard among the ranks of children’s television. So, it’s not entirely shocking that the accomplished actor views her cameo on the show as one of the “most important” credits of her career.

During a recent TODAY interview, Portman had nothing but praise for Bluey after host Hoda Kotb expressed surprise at seeing it on her IMDb page.

“I was a narrator of a nature documentary that they were watching,” Portman said about her appearance in the Season 3 episode “Whale Watching.” She continued, “It’s a very important show for my family and I was really, really honored to get to be part of it.”

After Kotb said Bluey was “such a hit” in her own house, Portman added, “It’s so wonderful. It’s pure joy.” Watch the full interview below.

Portman only has a few voiceover lines in the episode, in which a whale documentary plays in the background while Bluey, Bingo, and their exhausted father play “whale” while lying on the ground. Her role is simply listed as Whale Doco Narrator.

“Whales travel extremely long distances into warm waters to have their babies,” she says. “They stay with them all the way back to the colder waters. There’s nothing a whale mom wouldn’t do for her children.”

Portman is currently promoting her starring role as Maddie Schwartz in the Apple TV+ series Lady in the Lake, premiering this Friday, July 19th. Last year, she starred in Todd Haynes’ May December opposite Julianne Moore.
