Billy Ray Cyrus called singing at Corey Comperatore’s funeral “an honor.” The firefighter was killed during a shooting at Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on July 13.
His sister recalled how Comperatore shielded his wife and daughters when the shooting started.
“Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality,” she said (per People).
- Cyrus performed two songs, “Amazing Grace and “Some Gave All,” during Friday’s (July 19) service in Cabot, Pa.
- Two other men, David Dutch, 57 and James Copenhaver, 74, were also injured in an assassination attempt that clipped the former president’s ear.
- The country singer’s performance may not have even been the most remarkable thing to happen during the service.
“Corey Comperatore made the ultimate sacrifice,” Cyrus writes alongside a short video of a fire truck hoisting a large American flag. “He gave all for his family and his country. It was an honor to be at his service today. You’re all in my prayers. All Gave Some. Some Gave All.”
Trump had indicated he’d be attending the service, but was not in attendance. He did honor Comperatore during last Thursday’s speech at the Republican National Convention.
