Trevor Jackson has delivered his new album, It’s Complicated, via his independent label Born Art.
The 16-track offering includes all songs from Jackson’s Heads Up and He Don’t Know EPs, plus eight new tracks.
As the title suggests, It’s Complicated is a deep dive into the complexities of modern love and relationships. It completes the three-part story told on Heads Up and He Don’t Know.
Among the album’s new tracks is the Eric Bellinger-assisted “Consistency,” produced by Nonstop Da Hitman.
Over a knocking production, Jackson communicates his intent to seek constant love. He declares he’s “done with the fake love, it never lasts.”
He sings on the hook, “Every time she ends up in my bed / she never wanna leave me / she said she’s the one / when she not around, she still in my head.”
Bellinger appears in verse two, singing, “Baby I love when you love me so good / But is you gonna do it again.”
Speaking on the significance of It’s Complicated, Jackson wrote on Instagram, “This year has been the most difficult year yet, which is ironic because this is the happiest I’ve been with my music. Music has saved my life quite literally I’ve experienced the love of God thru music. I’ve cried to it. I’ve laughed to it. I’ve time-traveled with it. I’ve found myself in it. I’m forever grateful to it.”
Jackson continued his heartfelt message, “I wanna say to little Trevor, thank you. Thank you for your hard work, your vigorous thirst for life, and most importantly, your belief in me and where we’d end up. I love you.”
It’s Complicated is the follow-up to Jackson’s 2021 album, The Love Language. Following the album’s release, Jackson returned in 2022 with his EP Show Me Diamonds.
