October London’s ‘Mulholland Drive’ Tops Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay Chart

October London is back at the top of the charts.

The rising soul crooner’s latest single, “Mulholland Drive,” featuring Snoop Dogg and LaToiya Williams, moves from No. 3 to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart this week.

“Mulholland Drive” scoots J. Brown’s “If You Could See You” to No. 2 and bumps Lucky Daye‘s “That’s You” to No. 3.

At R&B radio, the Soopafly-produced jam moves from No. 2 to No. 1 this week. According to Mediabase, “Mulholland Drive” received 2,064 spins from July 21 through July 27, an increase of 100 since the previous week, for an audience impression of 8 million.

“Mulholland Drive is October London’s second No. 1 on the Adult R&B Airplay and at R&B radio. His breakout single “Back to Your Place” dominated the Adult R&B Airplay chart for 11 weeks.

Both songs are from London’s debut album, The Rebirth of Marvin, released Feb. 10, 2023, via Death Row Records. In an interview with BET, London shared the inspiration behind the album’s title, which he gave credit to Death Row Records owner Snoop Dogg.

“I didn’t come up with that title at all,” London told BET.  “I thought that was a scary way to put it because I didn’t want people to think that I was trying to fill his shoes. Those shoes are too big to fill. In my head, I was like, ‘That’s some cocky sh*t to say.’ Snoop said, ‘People will figure it out that you’re not trying to be Marvin, but you’re trying to reinvent the vibe he had.’ I got a little backlash, but it turned out to be good.”

The Rebirth of Marvin was featured on Rated R&B’s Best R&B Albums of 2023 list. “Perhaps the most compelling thing about The Rebirth of Marvin is the recurring theme of putting love and compassion back at the core of R&B,” wrote Anders Hare.

London supported his debut album on The Rebirth of Marvin Tour, which kicked off in January, with special guests The Shindellas and J. Brown

In other news, London recently joined jazz saxophonist Boney James on his new single “All I Want Is You.” The romantic tune will appear on James’ 19th album, Slow Burn, which releases Oct. 18.

London also appears on NxWorries‘ “FromHere,” also featuring Snoop Dogg, from the duo’s second album, Why Lawd?

This fall, London will join Maxwell on The Serenade TourThe 27-city tour kicks off Sept. 14 in Hollywood, Florida, making stops in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Nashville before concluding Oct. 27 in Los Angeles.
