Lil Jon Turns in Surreal Performance of “Turn Down for What” at DNC: Watch

The 2024 Democratic National Convention is in full swing, and in addition to securing her party’s nomination for president, Kamala Harris received a special approval: a genuine Lil Jon “Yeah!”

That’s right, the Crunk master himself put the “party” in “Democratic Party” at the convention in Chicago on Tuesday, helping the state of Georgia officially nominate Harris during Tuesday’s unconventional roll call, which featured a DJ playing a unique song for each state.

As it got to the Peach State’s turn, the beat for “Turn Down for What” began playing, and cameras panned to reveal Lil Jon, who delivered a signature “Yeah” before announcing, “Ladies and gentleman, we are here tonight to officially nominate Kamala Harris for president!”

Lil Jon then dropped the beat — “DNC, turn down for what?” — and joined the delegates from Georgia on the floor of Chicago’s United Center. From there, he got the crowd pumped, and began leading a chant of “We’re not going back.”

Then — as if this wasn’t surreal enough already — Lil Jon transitioned into a rendition of “Get Low” with new lyrics, “VP Harris, Governor Walz,” in place of “to the window, to the wall.” Watch a clip of the moment below.

Just one night before the roll call, Georgia Democrats got in on the “Get Low” mashup, hosting an afterparty with a “Window to the Walz” theme that featured a full DJ set from Lil Jon.

Elsewhere during the roll call vote, songs by Bruno Mars, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, Modest Mouse and more were played. Other musicians have been directly involved in the convention, too — on Monday night, Jason Isbell performed of “Something More Than Free.”

Lil Jon’s excitement for Harris’ campaign against Donald Trump comes with little surprise, considering that he said he didn’t agree “with many of the statements Mr. Trump has said” in 2016 when he revealed that the former president repeatedly called him “Uncle Tom” while filming Season 13 of The Apprentice.

Up next, Lil Jon is booked for DJ sets in Las Vegas, California, and Kentucky. Get tickets here.
