On Wednesday, the 16 artists nominated to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this year were finally announced. Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, JAY-Z, Tina Turner and Rage Against The Machine are among the acts nominated this year.

Now, it looks like the nominations have sparked that debate about what is considered rock music again.

It seems like every year the Rock Hall announces its induction nominees, the internet begins debating what rock music actually is. Last year, music fans weighed in on the controversy after artists such as the Notorious B.I.G. and Whitney Houston were nominated and eventually inducted into the Rock Hall.

Now, it looks like the same debate is happening again this year. Following the nominations announcement on Wednesday, music fans flocked to social media to share their thoughts. For many, they are wondering why acts such as JAY-Z, LL Cool J, Mary J. Blige and Chaka Khan are nominated. Why? Well, all of these artists are often associated with the rap and R&B genres.

However, some also argue that the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame should just be renamed to the Music Hall Of Fame. That way, more artists can be included in the nominations and the name can better reflect the artists already inducted.

Ultimately, the Rock Hall nominations bring into question what rock music is really considered to be. This debate has become more prominent over the years as artists continue to genre bend and jump in their careers.

The Rock Hall plans to hold its ceremony in Cleveland this fall. More information regarding the event and tickets will be announced at a later date.
