It’s been less than three days since our last Spider-Man 3 update. So, of course, there’s already something new to report on.
Currently, rumors are swirling that another classic villain from the Spider-Man universe may be making his long-awaited return for the new MCU film.

Back in October, it was first reported that Jamie Foxx is returning as Electro for Spider-Man 3. Shortly after, rumors emerged that Alfred Molina has also signed on to reprise his Doctor Octopus role. Then, earlier this month, new photos from the film’s set may have confirmed a familiar villain is making their MCU debut in Spider-Man 3.
Now, rumors are swirling Willem Dafoe isn’t quite finished with his Green Goblin role just yet. Last December, The Illuminerdi reported that Dafoe was finalizing his contract to appear in Spider-Man 3. According to The GWW, Dafoe was actually seen on the set of the new film earlier this month.
Now, CinemaBlend has further speculated that Dafoe may really be returning as Green Goblin. So far, all of these reports are just speculation. However, if the casting ends up being true, it would fit into that recent 4chan leak that allegedly spilled the entire plot to Spider-Man 3 which is reportedly called Spider-Man: Homeworlds.

According to the leak, Spider-Man allegedly faces the repercussions of Scarlet Witch opening the multiverse at the end of WandaVision. Eventually, this causes Holland to unite with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parkers. Together, they must work together to defeat the villains from their past and, apparently, there are a lot of them in this new film.
Although this Willem Dafoe casting rumor is still unconfirmed, there is one rumor Tom Holland recently tried to squash. For months now, rumors have been swirling that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are reprising their Peter Parker roles in Spider-Man 3. These reports first emerged back in October.

Since then, a lot has happened. Although Sony addressed the rumors in October, but refused to confirm them, a leaked Sony marketing teaser may have revealed the casting speculation is actually true. Then, in January 2021, Marvel head Kevin Feige was asked about the three Peter Parkers theory. However, he also refused to confirm whether or not it is true.
Finally, last week, Holland touched on the casting rumors. During a recent interview with Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast, Holland revealed that Sony hasn’t told him a single thing about the rumors.
“Beats me, I don’t know,” he says. “If they are, they haven’t told me yet… That would be something that Marvel would do. I watch the film and be like, ‘So that’s who that tennis ball was!’”

Then, earlier this week, Holland tried to squash the Garfield-Maguire return rumor altogether. However, he didn’t manage to convince many Marvel fans.
“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” he says. “Unless they [Marvel] have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”
