Toni Braxton Earns Second Number One Single of 2021 on Billboard

Longevity wins again. Just a month after topping the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart with Kem for “Live Out Your Love,” Toni Braxton is back in the number-one seat for her “Gotta Move On” collaboration featuring H.E.R.

The standout from her Spell My Name album is Braxton’s 11th number-one title on this chart. That puts her in a tie with Alicia Keys for the most chart leaders. The song’s success extends Braxton’s Billboard history as the only artist to have claimed a number-one single on this airplay-focused chart in four different decades: 2020s, 2010s, 2000s and 1990s.

Braxton first reigned at the top of the Adult R&B Songs chart with “Another Sad Love Song” in 1993. She was the inaugural chart-topper.

Also this week, “Gotta Move On” claimed the pole position on R&B radio. It nears 13 million audience impressions.

Braxton’s latest album Spell My Name was praised as one of the best R&B albums of 2020 by Rated R&B. It was noted that “no one does heartbreak, confrontation, and emotional resilience, quite like Braxton.”

Braxton’s musical partnership with Kem is vying for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration (Traditional) at the 2021 NAACP Image Awards.

Up for Best Original Song (“Fight For You”) at the 2021 Golden Globes, H.E.R.’s now fifth Adult R&B hit single is the icing on the cake for her already unstoppable year. She recently sang “America the Beautiful” at Super Bowl LV.

Last month, she released a music video for “Hold Together” from the Disney+ film Safety. In addition to the moving clip, H.E.R. appeared on Jazmine Sullivan’s “Girl Like Me” and performed the song alongside Sullivan at NPR’s Tiny Desk.
