Ascension, the first posthumous release from the late South Bronx rapper Fred the Godson, is here. Released today (February 22) on his birthday via R1CMG, the new album also coincides with the naming ceremony for Frederick ‘Fred the Godson’ Thomas Avenue in the South Bronx. The new LP follows 2020’s Payback, released a month before his death from COVID-19 in April 2020. He was 35 years old. Check out Ascension below.
A veteran of XXL’s 2011 Freshman Class—alongside Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller, Lil B, Meek Mill, Big K.R.I.T., and YG—Fred had released four albums in the last four years, including 2017’s Gordo, 2019’s God Level, and January 2020’s Training Day (with SNL alum Jay Pharoah).
