Primavera Sound 2021 Cancelled

Primavera Sound Barcelona has cancelled its 2021 festival, citing force majeure due to the pandemic. Tickets can be carried forward to the 2022 edition, the lineup for which will be unveiled on June 2. “We have tried everything,” the organizers wrote in a statement, “but we have now made this very painful decision due to the uncertainty surrounding the legal framework for large events on the original dates.” Preparations under current restrictions would unfeasible, they add. Read the statement in English on the second slide below.

After canceling its 2020 edition, the festival had announced a 2021 lineup including Pavement, the Strokes, Bad Bunny, and Tyler, the Creator, setting dates of June 2-6 this year. Others slated to perform had included Tame Impala, FKA twigs, Charli XCX, Jamie xx, and Gorillaz. At the time, the festival announced a policy whereby 2020 tickets would valid for the 2021 festival, which applies again this time. Refunds will be available from June 2, the date of the new lineup announcement.

The industry conference Primavera Pro will go ahead in a “hybrid edition,” both online and with a reduced in-person presence, on the planned dates of June 2-4, according to a press release.
