It’s been around two months since Children Of Bodom frontman Alexi Laiho tragically passed away.

Now, Laiho’s Sinergy bandmate/wife Kimberly Goss has revealed the cause of his death.

Back in January, fans learned that Alexi Laiho passed away in his Helsinki home following a battle with long-term health issues. Now, Goss has revealed just how he died.

According to Billboard, Goss was still legally married to Laiho at the time of his death. Due to this, she was given access to the autopsy report. On Thursday, she shared a lengthy Instagram statement confirming Laiho died from “alcohol-induced degeneration of the liver and pancreas connective tissue.”

As well, the post, which has been translated from Finnish to English, also says he had a “cocktail of painkillers, opioids and insomnia medication in his system.”

“The loss of this extraordinarily talented and beautiful soul is a tragedy that was entirely preventable,” Goss says. “He had so many good years left in him. Imagine all the amazing music we could still be getting if he had just accepted help. I plead with anyone who is struggling with alcoholism or any other substance abuse problem, to please seek support. You do not have to meet this same fate. If people are trying to help you, remember that they are doing it out of love and concern, so please do not push them away. Please do not surround yourself with enablers who promote your addictions. Let this be a cautionary tale that no one is invincible.”

Although no official autopsy report has been publicly released, a spokesperson for Bodom After Midnight confirmed to Billboard that Goss’ account of Laiho’s cause of death is accurate.

In 1993, Laiho formed Children Of Bodom with childhood friend drummer Jaska Raatikainen. For more than twenty years, the metal band released ten studio albums before eventually disbanding in 2019. Soon after, Laiho and rhythm guitarist Daniel Freyberg founded Bodom After Midnight.

Last month, Bodom After Midnight confirmed they have an EP on the way. The 3-track EP Paint The Sky With The Blood marks the final recordings of Laiho before his tragic death.

“Like ourselves, Alexi was beyond stoked about these songs and anxious to get these out so we are happy that we can fulfill his wish,” Bodom After Midnight said. “Needless to say that we are honored and proud to be a part of his very last creative work and unleash it the way he wanted it to. It’s time to let the beast out of the cage one more time as a celebration of Alexi’s music, legacy and the man himself.”

The upcoming EP features two original Bodom After Midnight songs – “Payback’s A Bitch” and “Paint The Sky With Blood.” However, the release also includes a cover of “Where Dead Angels Lie,” originally by Swedish metal band Dissection.

Bodom After Midnight had big plans after forming early last year. The band were expected to release a full-length album sometime in 2021. However, those plans came to an end following Laiho’s death. The Paint The Sky With The Blood EP arrives via Napalm Records on Apr. 23.
