We are just three weeks away from Evanescence finally releasing The Bitter Truth, their first studio album of all-new music in ten years. So far, they’ve offered plenty of tastes of what fans can expect from the upcoming LP.

All of the way back in April, Evanescence made their triumphant return with the hard-hitting songWasted On You.” Soon after, in July, they debuted their emotional guitar-driven single “The Game Is Over.” Then, in August, “Use My Voice” was released ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Evanescence are joined by Lzzy Hale, the Pretty Reckless‘ Taylor Momsen and Within Temptation‘s Sharon den Adel among others on the powerful song.

More recently, Evanescence helped say goodbye to 2020 for good with “Yeah Right.” Now, Evanescence are back with their fiery new single “Better Without You.” This time around, however, they are taking no prisoners. The song marks a true declaration of independence for Amy Lee who realized some people in her life were attempting to hold her back.

Filled with mammoth metal-inspired sounds and strong rock elements, “Better Without You” offers another glimpse of Evanescence’s long-awaited new album. As Lee told Rock Sound, this single is all about growing up and realizing adult life isn’t a fairytale after all.

“As the lyrics had started to form, and just my feeling in this moment in general, there’s a big theme of disillusionment for me,” Lee says. “Just growing up and seeing that fairy tales aren’t really real. And it’s hard to be a grownup, it really is. Because somebody else isn’t in charge, we really have to be able to make our own decisions, find out our own information [and] protect ourselves.”

For Lee, “Better Without You” ultimately tackles the choices we make each day and how they impact us in the long run.

“People die, we’re all going to,” she continues. “There’s no magic castle. So that sounds like a lot of doom and gloom when I say it, but there’s a choice to accept that truth and live in it and embrace it, choose to live, choose to live in a moment and the choice to just give up. And there’s a struggle there, but my choice is most definitely to take that pill.”

The Bitter Truth arrives on Mar. 26 via BMG.
