Beyoncé Shows Support for Meghan Markle After Oprah Interview

Beyoncé is standing by Meghan Markle.

Two days after the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry’s tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey on Sunday, the singer shared a message of support for Markle on the homepage of her website, Beyonce.com.

“Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership,” wrote Bey alongside a photo of the two at the European premiere of The Lion King. “We are all strengthened and inspired by you.”

During the bombshell interview, Markle revealed that she faced racism from both the palace and the U.K. press. The lack of support from the Royal Family after her marriage to Prince Harry even drove her to thoughts of suicide. In a shocking revelation, she said that her son Archie was denied a royal title and royal protection and that there were “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

This is not the first time Beyoncé has shown support for Markle. While accepting the award for Best International Group with JAY-Z at the Brit Awards in 2019, the power couple posed in front of a Mona Lisa-like portrait of Markle wearing a crown, inspired by their “APESHIT” music video.

Bey later honored Markle during Black History Month in 2019 when she was pregnant with her first child. “We bow down to one of our Melanated Monas. Congrats on your pregnancy! We wish you so much joy,” she wrote.

Beyoncé is the latest celebrity to publicly support the Duchess of Sussex in the wake of backlash on social media and the U.K. press. Following Sunday’s interview, Serena Williams shared a touching message in defense of her close friend.

“Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life—and leads by example—with empathy and compassion,” wrote the tennis star. “She teaches me every day what is means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she’s experienced.”
