Following a trio of singles released last year, Jacob Banks has silently returned and shared a new EP titled For My Friends.
It is the first outfit from the mighty bluesman since 2018’s Village, an album that made Rated R&B’s 25 best R&B albums of list.
Featuring powerful songs like the grueling post-breakup record “Stranger” and the empowering anthem “Parade,” Banks stretches the limits of his syrupy deep-tone to look at the essence of a relationship, good and bad.
In “Too Much,” Banks is in seventh heaven about a love that he can always use more of at any given time. Even though his partner might strike a nerve from time to time, he reassures her that he’s still down for her on the organ-based “Black N White.”
For My Friends is a pleasant surprise to his devotees in search of the right words to keep love alive.
