If there is one stage to gain visibility, it’s NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series. Xavier Omär makes his formal debut on the latest episode of the show’s cycle to generate more buzz for his new album, if You Feel.
Housed at Rosella Coffee and Wine in San Antonio, Omär and his small unit of mellifluous vocalists and band members ran through songs from his newest album, including the potent track “Like You Feel” and the deeply romantic tune “So Much More,” dubbed a strong contender for wedding song of the year by Rated R&B.
Omär also rendered “Blind Man,” taken from his 2016 project The Everlasting Wave.
In an interview with Rated R&B last fall, Omär commented on what he wanted as the main takeaway for fans after listening to the album.
“I think I want them to be able to feel each and every emotion,” said Omär to Rated R&B’s Danielle Brissett. “Fully feel every emotion that this album brings up in your heart and in your mind and just live with it. Let it do its healing. Let it do whatever it’s going to do for you; that’s what I would want people to step away with.”
If You Feel was declared one of Rated R&B’s 30 best R&B albums of 2020, ranking at No. 9 on the year-end list.
