This Is What It Sounds Like When You Time Correct Van Halen

YouTuber Bobby Huff wanted to demonstrate the ills of misusing quantization — the process by which engineers fix imprecise timing in music.

So, to make his point, he time corrected Van Halen’s “Runnin’ with the Devil,” which was recorded in the late ’70s, before quantization was a thing.

And… yeah… the results definitely sound… wrong. As Huff himself points out, time correcting the song takes out all of its peaks, valleys, and groove… basically, the emotion of the recording.
