This week, Lil Nas X’ latest single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” enters the Billboard 100 at No. 1, making it the rapper’s second chart-topping hit.
The track, which was accompanied by the controversial music video, clocked in 46.9 million U.S. streams with 21,000 downloads in the week ending April 1.
Celebrating the news on Twitter, Lil Nas X thanked his fans and responded to his critics “Y’all told a 19 year old who had just escaped the lowest point of his life that he would never have a hit again”, he tweeted. “You told him to stop while he’s ahead. he could’ve gave up. but 4 multi platinum songs and 2 #1’s later, he’s still here. thank you to my team and my fans!”, before he added, “SUCK MY DICK! LETS GOOOO!!”
Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” dominated the Hot 100 for a record-breaking 19 weeks. “Montero” is Lil Nas X’s fifth Hot 100 entry, all of which have hit the top 40. Between his two leaders, he charted with “Rodeo,” with Cardi B/Nas peaking at No. 22 in July 2019), “Panini” reaching No. 5 in September 2019, and “Holiday” hitting No. 37 on November 2020. Congrats!
